ROOM USE IN LIBRARY [11 May 2007]

ROOM USE IN LIBRARY: At present we do not have any requirement for students to take the key on time. They are free to come and use the room any time within the time period when a reservation is made. Concerning your suggestion of allowing other students to take up the room if the original requester does not show up after a certain period of time, the Library will gather more feedback from students before making any decision. In addition, we need to work with the software supplier to enhance the booking system if other students support the change.

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE TOO LOW [4 May 2007]

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE TOO LOW: Thank you for your suggestion. Improvement works on air-conditioning will be carried out in summer. We hope to have more control on the temperature setting after the engineering works. In the meantime, please bring some warm clothes with you for long time studying in the Library.

LIBRARY ART ALERT SERIES [3 May 2007]

LIBRARY ART ALERT SERIES : The Library cooperates with academic departments to promote art and cultural experience at Lingnan. From late March to mid-May 2007, we work with the Visual Studies Programme and the Artist-in-Residence to set up an Art Alert Series. Art exhibits will be installed in various locations of the Library. Please send us your comment on the visual impact and let us know how you feel about it. We hope that the exhibits will enrich the visual and intellectual horizons of our students.

RECENTLY RETURNED AV ITEMS [27 Apr 2007]

RECENTLY RETURNED AV ITEMS: Thank you for your following comment on locating AV materials. As you know, the turnover rate of AV materials is very high. Returned discs will be firstly put on a trolley for browsing and borrowing. Unwanted items will get shelved after a couple of hours. By doing so, the manpower for shelving can be saved. To address your question, a "RECENTLY RETURNED" sign will be put on the trolley next week. We hope that this information will help users to better locate AV items.

AUTHOR ENTRIES FOR CATALOG RECORDS [10 Mar 2007]

AUTHOR ENTRIES FOR CATALOG RECORDS: Thank you for raising your question on a catalogue record. Books are catalogued and processed according to established international cataloguing rules. For books that have more than 4 authors or more, in order to reduce processing time, the standard practice is to include just the first author. You can consult the catalogue records of the same title from other university libraries. They just include Ai Yun'er as the author.

PRINTING PROBLEMS [28 Feb 2007]

PRINTING PROBLEMS:  Please note that students can request refund from ITSC if their printing works are not correctly done. Fault can be reported to the Integrated Helpdesk at the Information Commons.

CASSETTE LOANS [28 Feb 2007]

CASSETTE LOANS:  Due to the fragile nature of cassette tapes, the Library does not loan out audio / video cassettes at this moment. Because the Linguaphone courses are audio or video cassettes, so we do not loan them out. The Library is in the process of reviewing and enhancing our language learning services, and see what improvements we can make. We would be glad to take your suggestion into consideration.

RECEIPT OF JOURNALS [1 Feb 2007]

RECEIPT OF JOURNALS: The Library has a regular procedure to keep track of the receipt of journals and will send claims to suppliers for late journals in an automatic way. For urgent usage needs, please contact the Library Reference Desk and we would be happy to find a copy of the required article from another library or through an electronic means for you.

VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LIBRARY CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENT [12 Nov 2006]

VOLUME LEVEL OF THE LIBRARY CLOSING ANNOUNCEMENT : Thank you for your suggestion. The Library has been testing lowering the volume level of the library closing announcement in the past few days. Slight adjustment has been made accordingly. Of course we cannot keep the voice level too low to hear, especially there are users wearing earphones or in some remote corners. We hope the new volume level can strike a balance between making proper public announcement and without causing a disturbance.

CLASSIFICATION OF MULTIMEDIA MATERIALS [3 Oct 2006]

CLASSIFICATION OF MULTIMEDIA MATERIALS: Materials are classified by the type of format and they can be identified by the prefix of call numbers. For example, the audio CD will have AVD as the prefix, Video CD as AVE, DVD as AVF, etc. Because the AV materials have more than a dozen different formats and are shelved in different shelves / cabinets, users who have any question in locating the materials, please contact the Media Services Counter for assistance.
