REQUEST & HOLD OF DVD [3 Oct 2006]

REQUEST & HOLD OF DVD: As AV materials have a very high usage demand and turnover rate, the loan periods are limited to 3 hours to 7 days. If the Library allows users to request and hold DVD items that have been loaned out, after returning to the Library, these items will be held behind the counter for 3 days until the users come to pick them up. In the mean time other users cannot use these items so usage will be adversely affected.

LIBRARY OPENING HOURS [1 Aug 2006]

LIBRARY OPENING HOURS: Each university has a different library usage pattern. In the case of Lingnan, the Library monitors the usage statistics to  determine the opening hours. Instead of keeping a long opening hours throughout the year, hours will be extended in some heavily used periods, e.g. examination time, to better meet users' need. Moreover, we survey our users on an annual basis to find out their comment and expectation on various library services, including opening hours. In 2005-2006, about 80% of users expressed that they were satisfied with the current opening hours.

CLEANLINESS OF LIBRARY WASHROOMS [18 May 2006]

CLEANLINESS OF LIBRARY WASHROOMS: Thank you for your comment on the cleanliness of Library washrooms. We are very concern of the washroom hygiene and have urged the Facilities Management Division to increase the cleaning schedule to 5 times per day. Should you come across any washroom that is considered not clean / hygienic enough, please feel free to contact the Circulation Counter or Mr. Andrew Liu, Circulation Librarian, at 2616 8580 for immediate attention.

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY [9 Mar 2006]

NOISE IN THE LIBRARY: Today more and more students require discussion and collaboration in their learning process. It is understandable that students may talk about search strategies when using databases or staff need to discuss alternative options in solving technical problems when they work in the Information Commons or other library areas. Of course, users always relay their questions and seek advice from the IC Helpdesk. Nonetheless, the current noise level in the Library is considered acceptable.

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE TOO LOW [8 Mar 2006]

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE TOO LOW: At this moment, the air-conditioning units and generators serve a large area from the Administration Building to the Sport Centre. Changing the temperature of one area will necessarily cause an effect on other areas. So the Library is unable to control or re-adjust the temperature by ourselves. Improvement works will begin this summer to set up a separate ventilation zone for the Library. Hopefully, after the works, the Library will have a greater degree of control on temperature in the coming winter.

RECORD OF UNAUTHORIZED REMOVAL OF LIBRARY MATERIALS [20 Feb 2006]

RECORD OF UNAUTHORIZED REMOVAL OF LIBRARY MATERIALS:  The Library considers that in most cases, users who have items not checked-out and passing through the exit gate are either careless or absent-minded. Therefore, the Library will just take down a record and remind users the possible penalty should the same offence be repeated. No penalty will be levied on first time offenders. Indeed, users always have the responsibility to check all items and make sure that they have properly been checked out before leaving the Library.

SUGGESTION OF ANNUAL FEE REDUCTION FOR EXTERNAL BORROWER CARDHOLDERS [1 Feb 2006]

SUGGESTION OF ANNUAL FEE REDUCTION FOR EXTERNAL BORROWER CARDHOLDERS: Thank you for your suggestion. The annual fee for external users is determined by the University. We would be glad to forward your suggestion to the relevant committee for consideration.

SUGGESTION OF EXTENDING THE OPENING HOURS OF LIBRARY [18 Jan 2006]

SUGGESTION OF EXTENDING THE OPENING HOURS OF LIBRARY: Thank you for your comment to the forthcoming extended library hours. The library has been monitoring the usage figures and will adjust its opening hours according to service demand. At this moment, we do not have any plan to extend the service hours during the weekends because the number of users coming to the library is not high.

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE [19 Dec 2005]

LIBRARY TEMPERATURE: Thank you for your suggestion. Please note that the Library does not have any control on the temperature as generated by the air-conditioners. As far as we know, during winter, only the ventilation part is on and no cool air will be generated by the machine. However, some users continue to feel cold in the Library. We have forwarded your suggestion to the Facility Management Division and see what things we can do. The FMD replied that it will carry out an inspection during the term break and let us know later.
