Thank you for your email.
As you may know other than Lingnan staff and students, external users with borrower’s/reader’s card are also allowed to enter Lingnan Library, it’s difficult for us to determine the suspicious users you mentioned and to take further action at the moment. However, we have reminded our staff and security guard to pay more attention to the users who have abnormal behavior inside the Library.
Aiming at providing better services to our user, there is a professional librarian on duty at the Information Commons on every Saturday and Sunday, you are advised to report the case to the duty librarian immediately if you encounter similar incident again in the future.
Please feel free to contact Mr. Andrew Liu, Circulation Librarian, at 2616 8580 or email to andrewl@ln.edu.hk if you need our further assistance.

Thank you for your comment in Campus Glow (嶺暉) about books unfound in the Library.
Please note that there are more than 450,000 book items in the Library and we have been trying our best to maintain the shelf order. But occasionally, some items cannot be located on shelf. There are many reasons, e.g. some books are currently being used, some are charged out by other users, some are mis-placed, some have just been returned and waiting for reshelving, etc.
The Library has a regular procedure to help locating unfound book items. Users can fill out a form and library staff will check the shelves again. After the item is found, an email notice will be sent to the user for pick up. If the item cannot be not found after 10 days, the user will be notified accordingly. The Library will also consider ordering a replacement copy.
According to our record, in this academic year, more than 95% of reported unfound items have been successfully located.
If you encounter any problem with unfound items and consider that the counter staff cannot help, please feel free to contact Mr. Andrew Liu, Circulation Librarian, at 2616 8580 or email andrewl@ln.edu.hk for further assistance.

As far as we can observe, most library computers are used for legitimate learning and research purposes. The Library Regulation 2.6 stipulates that “no games are allowed in the Library.” And library staff will remind students to stop playing games on library computers. Please note that we do not have related policy of refraining students from visiting Facebook, joining discussion groups or watching YouTube movies using library computers.

Thank you for your suggestions to the Library. Please note that any LU Library user can always make a hold request to item which is checked out by another user. Although some users do check HKALL for other available copies, the Library does not have the policy to require the user to check HKALL before putting a hold or require him to borrow from another library if a copy is available there.
Should you need further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

The Lingnan Library has been trying our best to provide a comfortable environment for reading and research. However, it should be noted that different areas of the Library have different pattern of user flow, shelf and furniture setting, equipment concentration, etc., so the temperature will not be exactly the same across the entire building. We had forwarded your suggestion to our Facility Management Division for inspection. The air-condition system would be checked with temperature adjusted to 25 degree Celsius in accordance with the University’s guideline.
If we can assist you further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your suggestion to the Library.
Individual study carrels on Library 1/F were removed to make rooms for additional book shelves. Please note that two study rooms are available on 3/F to provide new quiet study space for users.
According to Library Regulations 2.8: Reservation of seats in the Library is not permitted. Items including Library books left attended on Library tables exceedingly twenty minutes may be removed by Library staff. Please contact circulation counter staff if any assistance is required.

Thank you very much for your suggestions on printers and staplers in the Chiang Chen Information Commons (IC).
Octopus and network account printers:
The Library and ITSC are gradually replacing the account-based network printers with Octopus network printers due to several advantages of the latter such as:
- On-demand print job release with password control;
- Ability to handle A3 printing;
- Ability to handle double-sided printing.
- Ability to handle larger computer files.
At the beginning of this Term, two new Octopus black and white network printers were added to the IC printer pool, increasing the number of black and white Octopus printers at the IC to four. Meanwhile, two out of the four account based printers in the IC were redeployed to other service areas of the Library. In total, there are currently six black and white and one colour network printers in the Information Commons.

We will closely monitor the hardware performance and service demand for network printing in the IC and other areas of the Library, and will add more or replace old hardware with Octopus network printers according to our users’ needs.
Electrical Staplers:
From the past experience, common office staplers were worn out quickly. For providing a reliable service, office staplers are replaced by electrical heavy duty staplers. Currently, 4 electrical staplers are installed in the IC area. In responding to the user suggestion, the Library will also place 2 office staplers there and monitor the usage.
Please contact Mr. Andrew Liu, Circulation Librarian, at 2616 8580 for further assistance.

Thank you for your comment and suggestion to the Library. Signs are now put up for reminding students to keep quiet. Library staff will also remind users to conduct work at a reasonable noise level if they are found talking loudly in the Library. However, if you identify any student who is talking too loudly in the public area or have any other problem when using the Library, please do not hesitate to contact staff at the Circulation Counter or Information Commons Counter. We can send a staff to help you on spot.
At the same time, for users who want to use the microfilm reader, they can consider reserving the machine at Multimedia and Language Learning Centre (MLLC) counter. We believe that this arrangement will serve the study and research needs.
If we can assist you further, please feel free to let us know.
