Request Procedures

Eligible HKALL users at Lingnan University can make a HKALL request only if:

  1. The requested item is not available in the Lingnan University Library ; and

  2. Other libraries have at least a copy of the item with the status "AVAILABLE"; and

  3. The user has not used up his / her request quota

Therefore, users should always check the Lingnan University Library Catalogue first. If users cannot find the requested items in the Lingnan University Library Catalogue, then s/he should click the "Search HKALL" button as shown below:

The Search HKALL button will transfer the search to the HKALL union catalogue. If an "AVAILABLE" copy is found in other libraries, users can click on the "Request this title" link to initiate a request:

For the question "Which is your home library?", select "Lingnan".

Fill out the authentication page by typing in your name, barcode and PIN, then click the "Submit" button to complete the request procedure.

Recalls

  • Books borrowed using HKALL are subject to recall by users at the lending library. Upon recall, the users at Lingnan who currently have the items concerned will receive an email notification. The due date may be shortened and it will be stated in the notification email.

Renewals

  • HKALL items can be renewed twice if no user at the lending library has placed recalls on the items.
  • If the checked out items are not overdue, users can renew them online by themselves. Use the "View Your Circulation Record" or "Online  Renewal" functions at the Lingnan University Library Catalogue opening menu. No separate email notification will be sent out and it is the users' responsibility to observe the new due date shown in their circulation records.
  • The renewal period will be the same as the original loan period.
  • Renewal is treated as a continuation of loan and thus the book concerned will still be subject to recall at any time.

Cancellation of Requests

  • Users can cancel requests if they no longer need the items before the lending library processes the HKALL request.
  • Use the "View Your Circulation Record" function at the Lingnan University Library Catalogue to cancel the request. Users can cancel the request if the item is still listed as "HKALL REQUESTD". If the items is listed as "IN TRANSIT" or "HKALL RECVD", it is too late to cancel the request.
  • The lending libraries may also cancel the requests if the requested items are (i) not found on shelf, or (ii) being checked out by the local users or (iii) found not suitable for loan. The users concerned will be notified by email if the requested items are cancelled by the lending library.

Loss and Damage

  • It is the borrowers' responsibility to take good care of HKALL books borrowed from other libraries.
  • Users will be held  responsible for any loss of or damage of the HKALL books borrowed. Book replacement and penalty policies of the lending libraries will be applied when cases as such arise.
