Borrowing Privileges

Lingnan University students and staff can use their University ID Cards to borrow library materials. Other eligible borrowers are JULAC Library (Borrower) Card holders and users who have valid borrower's cards.

Graduates of Lingnan University are eligible to apply for a free Reader's card at the Circulation Counter. They may also apply for a Borrower's card at a non-refundable annual fee of $200 plus a one time refundable deposit of $500.

Renewals

Both staff and students can renew or self-renew books and CD-ROM or floppy with text on loan from the Library three times, provided that no hold request has been made for the same item by other users, and  the item has not been overdue. 

Holds and Recalls

1.HOLD:  Click "REQUEST/HOLD" in the WebPAC, users can place hold requests for books on display or exhibition and books which have been charged out by other users in the Chinese collection or English Collection. Users can request up to 5 items. 

2.MORE THAN 1 HOLD: If there are more than 1 hold to any item, the loan period will be shortened to 1 week for students and 2 weeks for staff and postgraduate students. 

3.ITEMS IN PROCESS: Users can request "In Process" items through click "REQUEST/HOLD" in the WebPAC. Items requested for immediate process will be ready for pick up within 3 working days. 

4.PICK-UP: When your requested item is available, a pick-up message will be sent to you by e-mail or SMS and also shown on your online circulation record. You may then go to the Circulation Counter to pick up your item. Please note that the Circulation Counter will hold your items for 3 days only .

5.RECALL: Books charged out by Borrower Type A, B & C  are subject to recall 14 days after they have been charged out.

Loss and Damage

Borrowers are responsible for any loss of or damage to items charged out. They are liable for the cost of the replacement*, a processing fee (HK$100), and the accumulated overdue fine.

*If the cost of replacement cannot be verified (e.g. gift or out of print title), an average book price of HK$500 will be charged.

24-Hour Book Drop

When the Library is open, please use the book drop in the Library lobby. When the Library is closed, books may be returned into the outside book drop on the ground floor of the Main Building near the University entrance. However, AV & Multimedia materials, 3-hour Reserve items, interlibrary loan items from other UGC libraries materials must not be returned to the book drops.  All books borrowed should be returned on or before the due date.

 

Missing Item Search

When the user hasn't found the item on the shelf twice, he/she can fill in a form of "Record of Missing Items". When the item is found, a notice will be sent to the user and then the item will be placed on the Hold Shelf.

 

In-Process Items Request

Library users may request an in-process item through click "REQUEST/Hold" in the WebPAC. The item will be processed immediately, and will be ready for pick-up in 3 working days after the request is made. When your requested item is available, a pick-up message will be sent to you by e-mail or SMS and also shown on your online circulation record. You may then go to the Circulation Counter to pick up your item. Please note that the Circulation Counter will hold your items for 3 days only .
