To find statistics of Hong Kong, you can do a keyword search: hong kong statistics in the Library Catalogue; then limit by subject words or title words on specific topic needed. E.g. search s:(hong kong statistics) and transport* for statistics related to transportation in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department has a descriptive index to its publications. After you find the publication that you want, you can read the publication online (publications after Oct 2001 are available free online) or search the Library Catalogue for older issues.

Most of the often used statistics are available at the annual digest and monthly digest:

Key Economic and Social Indicators are provided; as well as thematic maps and charts by geographic regions.

In addition to statistical series collected on regular basis, Census and By-Census are important sources of additional statistics available at district council level or lower. Results from the latest 2006 By-Census reports are available from the web site: http://www.bycensus2006.gov.hk/ and data is being released in phases since Feb 2007.

In Aug 2008, the 2006 By-Census Interactive Data Dissemination System was launched allowing users to generate tables and charts interactively online.

For hard copies of census reports at the Library, please search the Library catalogue by subject in the format hong kong census 2006, hong kong census 2001, etc.

The Library also has the 2001 Census and 1996 By-Census data on CDROM:

Ad hoc reports and special surveys conducted by the Census and Statistics Department are published as featured articles in the Monthly Digest and reports in the thematic household survey ([REF] HA4651.Z5) or general household survey report series ([REF] HA4651 .S64).

In addition, web sites and annual reports of many government departments, committees, and institutions provide many useful statistics. E.g. for higher education enrollment figures, graduates statistics, etc. we can refer to the statistics web page of UGC.
