BORROWING PRIVILEGES [27 Sep 2004]

BORROWING PRIVILEGES: Please note that the Baptist University Library and Lingnan University Library have mutual agreement on providing access to undergraduate students (Yr. 1 to Yr. 3) by showing a valid university student card to the security post. Undergraduate students of both institutions are free to visit the other library. However, only reader's privilege, i.e. materials must be consulted in-house, not borrower's privilege of checking out materials, is allowed.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY [22 Sep 2004]

MOBILE PHONE POLICY: Thank you for your comment on the mobile phone policy as applicable in the Library and its implementation. The policy is designed for enabling a quiet studying environment for all library users so that it should be enforced as far as possible. The record will serve as a reminder to first time offender and penalty will only be taken against repeated offenders. Should you have any enquiry on the policy, please feel free to contact Mr. Tommy Yeung, Associate Librarian, at 2616 8566 or email: tyeung.ln.edu.hk.

SUGGESTIONS ON EQUIPMENT [21 Sep 2004]

SUGGESTIONS ON EQUIPMENT: Please note that a small table and a stapler have been put near the photocopier at the Electronic Information Area. If you have more ideas on improving the library service, please do not hesitate to let us know.

MAIN BUILDING EXTENSION WORK [5 Sep 2004]

MAIN BUILDING EXTENSION WORK:  Two new floors will be added on top of the Main Building. The completion date of major construction work will be the end of this year to early next year. After completion, the northern wing of 1/F will house the Chinese Collection. An Information Commons with integrated helpdesk support, together with the Periodical Collection will be located on the southern wing. The Multimedia Language & Learning Centre (MLLC) will remain on the 2/F.

THE PHOTOCOPIERS, PHOTOCOPYING PAPER AND THE STAPLERS AVAILABLE IN THE PHOTOCOPYING ROOMS [27 May 2004]

THE PHOTOCOPIERS, PHOTOCOPYING PAPER AND THE STAPLERS AVAILABLE IN THE PHOTOCOPYING ROOMS: Please note that to keep up with service quality, 2 new photocopiers will be ordered in the new financial year. Library staff will check all photocopiers each day and report problems to the supplier. Maintenance service will be available in the day after.

If you find any difficulty in using the staplers, please let us know. We would be very happy to replace any malfunctioned staplers.

REMINDER NOTICES [6 May 2004]

REMINDER NOTICES: Thank you for your suggestion. As you know, sending a reminder notice to students when they enter the Library will better communicate the message than just putting up a notice on the entrance door or the notice board.

We fully share your environmental concerns. In future, we would try our best to print on used papers for any message to be distributed and communicated to our students.

If you have a better idea in drawing students' attention to library policies / measures, please do not hesitate to let us know.

TAKING PICTURES IN THE LIBRARY [3 May 2004]

TAKING PICTURES IN THE LIBRARY: Since the Library is a quiet place for studying, users are not allowed to take pictures here. As you know, during this time of the year, many students are preparing for their examinations or working on their term papers. Allowing hundreds of students taking pictures in the Library will cause a great deal of disturbance.

CITATION RESOURCES [25 Mar 2004]

CITATION RESOURCES: The Library provides information on Citation and Style in the Lingnan Digital Library -- Selected Internet Resources -- Research Methods -- Citation and Style:

PRINTING DUE-DATE SLIPS [12 Mar 2004]

PRINTING DUE-DATE SLIPS: Thank you for your suggestion of stopping to provide due-date slips due to environmental considerations. However, these slips serve as reminders to return the materials or equipment in time and some users prefer to receive slips. After internal discussion, the Library would put up a sign at the Media Services Counter and ask users whether they want a due-date slip for loaned items before printing. After more users' feedback is obtained, the library will decide the long-term policy.

RESERVE BOOKS [8 Nov 2003]

RESERVE BOOKS: As reserve books will be used by all students of the same class, the demand for them is heavy.  The reason for not allowing a student who returns a reserve book to borrow it again is to prevent the situation that the reserve book is being circulated among the same group of users such that other students cannot have the chance to borrow and read the material. As you know, reserve books are non-requestable, i.e. users cannot place a hold to it, there must be a way to ensure all students to have an equal chance of access.
