In the studio course "Digital Imaging", each student is assigned to one of the eighteen districts in Hong Kong by a random draw at the beginning of the course. In the process of generating a personal art object in response to the site, students are encouraged to consider their physical situation and the context of their image projects, while learning and applying imaging applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustration. The visual manipulation of images with digital software should not merely consist of the manipulation of software filters. Through their site-specific art projects, students create temporary zones at the inhabited surroundings, mediating between hyper-scripted artifacts of consumption and the humanized zone of communication that art making entails.
