[5th International Ink Painting Biennial of Shenzhen ; Film review : "Casino Royale" ; Our Life in West Kowloon : Living Museum] (19 Dec 2006)

We begin this week's show by heading off the beaten track of Hong Kong's art galleries, auditoriums, and museums, north to Shenzhen. From now until January 10th the "5th International Ink Painting Biennial of Shenzhen" is on. It aims to show the trends in contemporary ink painting from more than ten different countries. It also reveals that Shenzhen, as one of the world's fastest-growing cities, is bringing a more urban feel to the art of ink painting. In part two of ontight's show we look at the cramped spaces and unsatisfactory conditions that some in Hong Kong have long had to live in. Number 117 Kweilin Street in Sham Shui Po is soon to become a living museum. Organised by SoCO, the exhibition, "Our Life in West Kowloon – Living Museum" will run for a month starting next March. The exhibition includes a series of art talks, installations, night shows, video screenings and a chance to savour some local snacks on the rooftop. Last week, they gave the news media a preview.
