Up and Running - Producer: Richard Yu. In the early 20th century, Chinese are humoured as “ East Asia Sick Men ” . In international competitions, their performance was far behind other countries. In 1936 Berlin Olympics, only one Chinese athlete could proceed to the 2nd round. All other athletes were lost. Since then, everyone in China started to participate in sports actively. They decided to strengthen themselves. Now, China is one of the best country in sport. It also hosts 2008 Olympic Game. To welcome this world sports event, a sport wave is stirring up in every corner of the Beijing streets. According to statistics, almost 90% of the communities and regions has sports facilities or clubs established in it. As China is becoming stronger and stronger, the health of its people has also improved. However, there is a difference among provinces. the eastern side of the country seems to be healthier than the western side. Guizhou is one of the province with the least quality of health among its citizens. So the provincial government is actively promoting the benefits of sport activities among its villages, and organize its Farmer Games to encourage farmers to do sports. Sport is not only a competitive event. While China actively develops its sport activities and industry, the shame of “ East Asia Sick Men ” will finally go away.
