Are our facilities good enough to hold the 5th East Asian Games? (16 Nov 2003)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Hong Kong won the right to hold the 5th East Asian Games in 2009. Timothy Fok Tsun-ting (President, Hong Kong Sports Federation and Olympics Committee) says in the six years leading up to the Games, Hong Kong can upgrade and build some facilities. The government estimates the cost to be $160 million, half of which will come from taxpayers. He says sports nowadays is an industry and money spent is an investment. It is a good time for Hong Kong businesses to participate. As results are important for sponsorship, athletes should move away from amateurism to professionalism.
