Child labour in Hong Kong (27 Nov 2005)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

According to a recent study, children as young as 5 years old have to do the odd jobs like picking up trash. The Society for Community Organization says more than 1,800 children have to do such work to help their families make ends meet. Why is there such poverty in a wealthy society like Hong Kong? Is there a need to set up a children's commission? Discuss these issues with Sze Lai Shan (Community Organizer of Society for Community Organization) and Fernando Cheung (represents social workers in Legco)
