China's New Leaders; Gay Rights. (16 Nov 2012)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

China's new leadership has been announced at the 18th Communist Party Congress, and it seems to be bad news for those who were expecting reform of liberalisation, with Hu Jintao having apparently lost ground to the Jian Zemin camp. China watcher Willy Lam is in our studio to talk about the transition of power.  Last week, the Legislative Council debated a motion on whether to initiate a public consulation on gay rights. The pro-government legislators voted it down. It's not only the love that dare not speak its name apparently, it's the love we dare not even talk about. At the end of that week, the annual Gay Pride Parade took place, presenting a radically different view of acceptance.
