Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

With more and more teenagers going to discos and karaoke bars in Shenzhen, the problem of cross-border drugs is also escalating. It is not difficult or expensive to get drugs in Shenzhen, which has now become the entertainment capital of the region. Social workers say they have been caught off-guard by the drug abuse problem there. Hong Kong police and customs are watching for drug-smuggling teenagers across the border. In 1999 only eight cases occurred, but in 2000, the figure has risen to 3,746, and in the first three months of 2001, 3,735 cases have already been seized.
