Digital entertainment (30 Dec 2003)

Although Hong Kong has a long track record in digital animation in movies, it is not getting its share of the market in on-line games. One of the reasons is that Hong Kong's relatively small population is insufficient to create a meaningful player-base to support the high production cost of these games. With CEPA, this situation should improve. Sin Chung-kai (Legislator, Information Technology Constituency) says the most important element in digital entertainment is brainpower, but young people, trained in universities in creative media, find it difficult to find jobs or start their own production company. Urges the government to help incubating start-ups.
