The future of English language media in Hong Kong (14 Nov 2004)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

The Far Eastern Economic Review closed down last month and the Spike magazine folded after publishing for less than a year. Looks at the future of English language media in Hong Kong. David Armstrong (Editor, South China Morning Post), Philip Bowring (Former Editor, Far Eastern Economic Review) and Stephen Vines (Former Publisher, Spike Magazine) believe that the closures were not due to reduced readership or lack of market, but rather, a lack of financing and losing touch with the core readership. Also note that an increase of English usage on the Internet has expanded the market for English media.
