Future of the English media in Hong Kong (27 Jun 2004)

Mark Clifford (Editor, The Standard) says his paper's circulation is higher here than in other Asian countries. Points out that his paper concentrates on business news because the days of general interest publication are over. Also observes that the English standard here is much worse than that in other former British colonies. Stephen Vines (Publisher, Spike Magazine) says his magazine has a monopoly in satirical publication. He says local government officials think it is politically correct to brief in Cantonese instead of English but this contradicts with Hong Kong's world city image.
