Hidden Heroes (07 May 2004)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Many consumer products, such as mobile phones, require the enhancements of mechanical and metal parts. Yet these crucial elements have often been overlooked.Hong Kong ’ s metal and mechanical industries started in the late 50s and early 60s. The 80s was the golden era when many manufacturers started to move their production plants to the Mainland and expanded their operations. However, since the metal industry was largely ignored in the past, many people outside the field think that the industry has fallen behind and young people, in particular, view it as an offensive trade with little prospects. There should be more recognition and a renewal of interest in the metal and mechanical industries that are the silent heroes of our economic force.
