Island East Urban Dance Festival; Street Hair Artists; Movie Watch - French Cinepanorama; Hong Kong International Poster Triennial; "Swan Lake on Ice" (04 Dec 2007)

Tonight's show is presented by Ben Pelletier. Contemporary dance is most often performed in auditoria, up on a stage. At the moment, in Quarry Bay, members of the public are getting the chance to encounter, in their everyday lives, what's known as site-specific dance. That's the focus of the Island East Urban Dance Festival. Not so far from Quarry Bay, in Causeway Bay, a group of quite different artists were practising the tonsorial art in the streets last week. "Sienta la Cabeza", a group of European street art performers, were taking members of the public and transforming their heads. At an earlier preview for the media, they displayed the combination of hair salon, music, and theatre they were about to unleash on an unsuspecting public. For our look at the movies this week we turn away from the dominant Hollywood fare to films from France. This year's Cinepanorama opens this Friday and runs until December 16th. The festival includes 23 feature films, and while they may be nominally French movies, their creators come from all over the world. Gary Pollard talks to Alice Chiappero, who chose the movies for the festival. The Hong Kong International Poster Triennial Exhibition, currently showing at the Heritage Museum, shows a broad range of poster design. More than 2,000 pieces of work were submitted for the show. Entries came from more than 700 designers from 46 different countries. Around 250 posters were selected. Grouped into four categories: "Ideology", "Promotion of Cultural Events", "Commercial and Advertising" and "Thematic – Children", the entries provide a comprehensive overview of new trends in international poster design. At the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, "Swan Lake on Ice" ends on Sunday. It's performed by the Imperial Ice Stars. On Saturday, the company gave a master class at Tai Koo Shing. We end our show tonight with a glimpse of that, and talk to two of the performers.
