It's An Ill Wind (04 Feb 2003)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

The people of Hong Kong have always prided themselves on their liberal spending habits, particularly on food. But times have changed and even these proud spenders have become rather tight-fisted. The restaurants are having a very tough time. While they suffer or even go under, their suppliers, too, are experiencing probably the worst time ever. The chain reaction is most destructive. Yet there are invariably some businessmen who are brave enough to be aggressive and diversify, believing there are opportunities to be taken and the economy will turn around. Meanwhile, though, the economic ill wind that started blowing in 1996 has certainly brought nobody any good … and it's still blowing.
