Japan : the ailing giant (14 Mar 2002)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Since the bubble economy burst in the early 90's, Japan's economy has been falling apart. And over the past year the warning siren has been ringing louder that ever. The unemployment rate shot record high, the Nikkei Index fell to a level that hasn't been seen since the early 1980's. Amidst cries of reforms, can the world's second largest economy ever go back to its heydays? The programme interviews a woman who's known as "Queen of economizing", the owner of a department chain that went bankrupt, a 52 year old man who left the company he worked at for after 30 years, as well as manufacturing giants like Nissan and Sanyo
