Latest British report on Hong Kong (25 Jul 2004)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

The British government has issued its latest six-month report on Hong Kong which, for the first time in seven years, does not say that one-country two-systems is working well. Discusses whether China has violated the Sino-British joint declaration and what Britain's role should be in the post handover period. Peter Wong Man-kong (Local Deputy, National People's Congress) says the report has grossly violated diplomatic protocol by meddling in China's internal affairs. Anthony Cheung Bing-leung (Professor, Department of Public and Social Administration, City University of Hong Kong) says as a party to the joint declaration, Britain has the right to comment.
