Mainland mistress (19 April 2001)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Many Hong Kong and Taiwanese men doing business in the Pearl River Delta have found local mistresses. The National Congress of China is revising draft amendments of marriage law in the mainland, in the hope that by making bigamy a criminal offense it can prevent married people from keeping mistresses. Will the new law help stop the current trend? While lawyers in the mainland remain cautious or even skeptical about the passing of the new law, one businessman says he will leave his mainland girlfriend immediately if the law is passed since he fears going to jail.
