New Home, New Hope (29 Oct 2009)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

The earthquake in the Province of Sichuan, China, in May last year was catastrophic. In the aftermath, a lot of stories of heroism have been told. However, relatively little has been made public about a reconstruction project in a small community called San He Ping, situated right above the epicenter. Aptly named ‘ New Home ’ , the project is the brainchild of volunteers from four Mainland civil organizations. Its goal is much more than reconstruction. It is designed to nurture self-determination in a community and hopefully to be a precursor to the appearance of civil society in China. Producer: Eric Poon
