Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Looks at the different definitions of "patriotism" including the 3 criteria of a patriot given by former Chinese leader Deng Xaioping twenty years ago. The contemporaries of legislators, Szeto Wah, Martin Lee Chu-ming and Cheung Man-kwong, defend them against accusation made by Tsang Hin-chi (National People's Congress Standing Committee Member) that they are unpatriotic. Discusses if the flag-raising ceremony in schools and social movements by people demonstrate patriotism. Kwok Siu-tong (Professor, History Department, The Chinese University of Hong Kong) believes a macro-view should be taken and that there are many facets in the manifestation of patriotism.
