Possible reform in electoral matters in 2007/08 (16 May 2004)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Martin Lee Chu-ming (Democratic Party) blames the government for not standing up for the people of Hong Kong when it allowed the National People's Congress (NPC) rule out universal suffrage in 2007/08 even before there is a chance for deliberation on the subject in Hong Kong. Tsang Yok-sing (Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong) says although the NPC's decision is a political fact, people can still change the way the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council are to be elected in 2007/08. Discusses the possibility of enlarging and electing the members of the election committee.
