About 1.26 million people in Hong Kong, i.e. 18.1 per cent of the population, have to struggle to make ends meet. Yes, amidst the affluence that is the SAR, poverty is a real problem. The main cause, it is generally agreed, is the ever widening gap between the rich and the poor.
