EVER SINCE THE HONG KONG ECONOMY MADE THE BIG SHIFT FROM BEING MANUFACTURING-ORIENTED TO BEING A SERVICE ECONOMY, ABANDONED WAREHOUSES AND FACTORIES HAVE BECOME A FAMILIAR SIGHT. OVER THE YEARS, THESE LARGE EMPTY PLACES HAVE BEEN TURNED INTO FUNCTIONAL MODERN SPACE BEING USED FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES. LAST YEAR THE HONG KONG JOCKEY CLUB DONATED HK$64 MILLION TO FINANCE A PROJECT TO TURN AN OLD FACTORY ESTATE INTO AN 'ARTIST'S VILLAGE', WHICH WILL BE OFFICIALLY OPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2008. MONEY MAGAZINE LOOKS AT THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT LIE IN THESE OLD, OTHERWISE USELESS SPACES.
