Sarah Liao talks about sustainable development (18 Jul 2004)

Sarah Liao Sau-tung (Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works) says the roadside air quality in Hong Kong has improved but not the ambience of air quality due to pollution in neighbouring Guangdong. On waste disposal, Liao says she has obtained cooperation from the construction industry to reduce waste production. She explains the implementation of the second stage of the Stonecutters Island sewage treatment facility and what is being done in the area of renewable energy. Says she has to balance the sustainable developmental need of the environment against the economic and social interests.
