Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

With just four weeks to go before the Financial Secretary unveils the 2003 budget, tonight's progamme examines the government's tax-raising options. While officials have ruled out a sales tax, modest increases in salaries tax and profits tax look increasingly likely -- although the main popularly elected political parties argue against a widening of the tax net to bring in more of the working population. There's also an interview with Taiwan's new cultural envoy in Hong Kong, novelist and playwright Lu Ping.
