Fighting between Sri Lankan government troops and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels halted after they signed a Norwegian-brokered cease-fire agreement in February 2002. This programme examines the progress made so far in the peace process. Comments made by Muttukrishna Sarvananthan (Economist), G. Lakshman Peiris (Sri Lankan Government Peace Negotiator) and Lasantha Wickrematunge (Political commentator) are positive about the development. Looks at plans of Chinese government to develop the Shangri-la Ecological Tourist Zone. Local academics, the Chief of Dege County and Tan Chee Beng (Anthropology Department, Chinese University of Hong Kong) express their views about the impact of tourism on the traditional ways of life of the ethnic Tibetans.
