Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

The Chief Executive has created a Council for Sustainable Development since 2003. The Council's Vice Chairman Edgar Cheng Wai-kin explains what sustainable development means and provides the Council's terms of reference. He says the Council has successfully raised people's awareness of the concept of sustainable development. Albert Lai Kwong-tak (Chairman, Conservancy Association) says his Association is glad to see what it has been championing for in the past 12 years finally become realities. But he says people's awareness is not enough, they should also participate in decision-making and that the government should legislate policies to support the decisions.
