Views on the Budget (27 Feb 2009)

Tonight The Pulse focuses exclusively on Financial Secretary John Tsang's second Budget. In tough economic times, not only do budgets, whether large or small, take on more importance, they also tend to get viewed more critically. According to a survey by the Public Opinion Programme of the University of Hong Kong, fewer than a third of Hong Kong citizens are satisfied this year. That makes this Budget the second-least popular since the handover. But is the Financial Secretary taking the fall for things he can't be expected to control? Or is the Budget an inadequate response to current problems? With us in the studio to scrutinise it are Alex Fong of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, former legislator Eric Li, Peter Wong of the Lion Rock Institute, and Ayesha Macpherson, of the Taxation Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
