Virus (08 Feb 2004)

Shows how the return of the bird flu affects people in Vietnam, where there is a shortage of medical supplies, equipment, beds and funds in its hospitals. Also looks at what is being done in Hong Kong and China to curb the spread of the avian flu. Reveals the ignorance of chicken farmers and poultry handlers who take little protective precaution. Observes that as the various subtypes of avian flu can easily mutate into something highly lethal, the spreading of which cannot be easily stopped once started, experts caution against the possibility of human-to-human transmission.
