Was the Harbour Fest a good idea? (02 Nov 2003)

Printer-friendlyPrinter-friendly

Jim Thompson (Chairman, American Chamber of Commerce) says the objective of Harbour Fest is to bring the world to focus on Hong Kong again after SARS. The Economic Re-launch Strategy Group embraces the idea. However, Jim regrets the recent rash of negative press. He denies that the organizers are inexperienced and says that the government has been kept closely apprised of the progress of the project. A pro-forma budget was submitted and expenditures are in line with the plan. A financial report will be prepared after all claims have been settled. He, however, admits they have overestimated the attendance.
