Open Access (OA) Publishing Agreements (also known as Transformative Agreements or Read & Publish Agreements) are contracts negotiated between a publisher and an institution (mostly through Library), to shift the payments away from subscription-based reading of journals to support OA publishing. The agreements vary among publishers with different terms and conditions apply.
The Library has entered OA Agreements with the following publishers, with fee paid on top of the journal subscription costs, allowing Lingnan authors to publish an agreed number of OA articles in the publishers’ academic journals at no additional cost upon fulfilling specific conditions.

The Library has entered into APC Discount Agreements with the following publishers, allowing Lingnan authors to publish OA articles in these journals at a discounted rate, upon fulfilling specific conditions.
MDPI
The Library has entered an agreement with MDPI, allowing Lingnan authors to publish OA in MDPI journals with 10% discount on Article Processing Charge (APC), upon fulfilling the following conditions:
- ACCEPTED for publications in MDPI journals [ Journal list ]
- Date of Acceptance: Fall on or after 15 May 2026
- The submitting author must submit the manuscript via SuSy using their institutional email address (ending with @LN.edu.hk or @LN.hk) and correctly select Lingnan University as their institution during the submission process.
Additional Benefits: Lingnan authors can also benefit from a 10% discount on Book and Chapter Processing Charges (BPCs / CPCs) for MDPI Books, and a 15% discount on MDPI Language Editing Services

Sage
The Library has entered an agreement with Sage, allowing Lingnan authors to publish OA in selected Sage Gold Access journals with 15% discount on Article Processing Charge (APC), upon fulfilling the following conditions:
- ACCEPTED for publications in Sage journals (Gold OA) [ Journal list Scroll down to Eligible journals for 2026 Gold Open Access journals ]
- Date of Acceptance: Fall within 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026
- Have a Corresponding Author AFFILIATED with Lingnan University (priority will be given to Active Full-time academic / research staff, RPG / Doctoral Degree students)
- Corresponding Author MUST use Lingnan Email Address (ending with @LN.edu.hk or @LN.hk) upon submission, in order to attribute your accepted article manuscript with OA Agreement between LU and Sage.
